An alternative look at bookmarks

All this while I have always looked at bookmarks with two sides of the same design running the length of the bookmark.  Then, a thought crossed my mind that one edge of the bookmark will always be flushed to the spine of the book. What if I focus on the other side and have some creative and flourish design while keeping the other side simple and straight?

Here is the first result of my thoughts, a basic rings-and-chains with clovers as thrown rings

I like this idea and may work on a few more designs. This is a simple design, and I am sharing the chart here should anyone who wants to try it.

If you wish to venture further, take a look at any straight edging pattern and see if you can turn it into a bookmark.

Don't forget to credit the original designer of the edging pattern if you do use it for your bookmark.  It may be re-purposed as a bookmark but the original edging design and pattern is still the original designer's copyright even if it is freely available online.

Jan Stawasz Masterpiece Doily - 2nd time.

Sometime in July 2016, I started on the Jan Stawasz Masterpiece doily all in white.  I finished the doily in June of 2018, tatting with size 20 Hakelgarn Online.

I have not posted a picture of the finished doily since completion as my laptop had gone kaput. Now that I had gotten myself a new computer, here is a photo of the completed doily.

I don't usually do a re-tat of a pattern,  but I have been seeing beautiful colourful photos of the JS Masterpiece in a FB group dedicated to tatting this doily.  I just had to make another one, in colours this time.

To challenge me further, for this 2nd time I am tatting using size 80!  Here it is up to Round 5.

This is another one of Jan Stawasz designs from one of his book, Tatting Theory & Patterns (if it is not in this one, then it should be in his other book).

This mat was tatted in size 40 and gifted it to a friend.  I had to make something for her since she had generously given me four 50gm balls of the tatting thread which she had been keeping for years and not used if for anything.

2-in-1 Heart Pattern

While woorking of the TaR Jan2020 Snowflake motif, I notice the shape of a heart (or two) in it.
And here it is.

This is the counts for the first heart:
(Please ignore the thread tails. I numbered it starting at the wrong side but it does not alter the way this is tatted)
Refer to rhe photo for where the joins are.
Ring 1: 3-2-2-3-2-4-4
Chain 2: 3-3-4-3-3
Ring 3: 4-4+2-4-4
Chain 4: 2-2-4-8-3-2-3
Ring 5: 4-4+2+3-2-2-3
Do not reverse for chain 6
Chain 6: 3-2-2-3-3
Ring 7: 3+3-3-3
Ring 8: 3+3-2-2-2-2-3-3

Repeat from Ring7 in reverse to complete Heart 1.

Do not cut the thread at this point for Heart 2.

Reverse work to continue with Heart 2.
Chain 1: 3-3-3-3
Ring 2: 5+5
Chain 3: 3-3-3-3-3
Ring 4: 3-3+3-3
Chain 5: 3-3-3-3
Ring 6: 3-3+5
Ring 7: 5+3-3

Work in reverse from Chain5 to complete the other side. 

Tie to base of Ring1 to finish Heart 2.

New snowflake motif

The motif is one of the results from my design process that I shared earlier. It was also published in my Facebook page.

There is no chart for this but I have marked the sequence of rings and chains on the photo. The stitch counts for the sequence are given under each photo.

The centre flower is worked wiht shuttle-and-ball.
Ring A: 3-4-3-3-4-3
Chain B: 8-8
Ring C: 3-4+3-3-4-3
The rings are joined as in the photo.

Outer round
(refer to photo for positions of the joins)
Ring A: 3-4-2-4-3
Chain B: 3-3-3-8+8, join to any picot of the centre flower.
Ring C: 3-4+2-4-3.
Chain D: 8+8-3-3-3
Ring E: 3-4+2+4-3
Do not reverse for Chain F
Chain F: 3-3-3-3-3
Ring G: 3+3-2-2-3-3
Ring H: 3+3-2-2-3-3
Ring I: 3+3-2-2-3-3
Chain J: 3+3-3-3-3
Repeat Ring A. Do not reverse work for Ring A repeat.
