Doily No. 3 started
I have started on a 3rd doily. I have finished four rounds but could not decide on the next round.
I wanted to have an overlap in it but could not choose from these two options.
This is the full picture of Doily no.2.
I wanted to have an overlap in it but could not choose from these two options.
The overlap is at the rings |
The overlap is at the chains |
Thread used is Lizbeth size 40 golden yellow #613. The size is about 7 inches diameter |
From my perspective, the overlap at the chains does not look as contrived as the top photo. Visually, it seems to flow better.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow one is a beauty, Jon.
Happy New Year!
Fox : )
Happy New Year to you too, Fox.
DeleteActually, it is quicker to do the overlap in the top photo compared to the second photo. But, there is some visual continuity in the second that sort of links the 4th and 5th round.
I like the look of the overlap in the chains, pic #2, I think it is clearer that there is an over lap while the first one just looks bunched.
ReplyDeleteI can see how it is quicker to do the overlap in #1 as the rings are simply popped through the previous row, similar to how some Celtic tatting is done using 2 interlocking motifs with a 3rd row to tie them together. In #2, the chains are interwoven in and out.
I prefer the look of #2, but if you are thinking of a Celtic style look, then depending on your next row, #1 would be the logical choice.
Thank you for your views on this. It is something I will consider.
DeleteI think both versions look really cool, but I have a slight preference for the first one. It somehow looks more intricate, even though I know it's actually easier to do.
ReplyDeleteWhichever you choose, I think you'll have to do the same thing again later in the doily for continuity. Otherwise it will look like that one round was just randomly stuck in there; whereas if you do it again, it will look better planned.
You are right, Miranda. I plan to include more rounds in that effect for this doily.
DeleteBoth look good, but the second one is more immediately pleasing, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea! I like the second picture best it looks really neat. The doily no.2 is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI rather like the middle one it looks better than the top one, there's nothing wrong with it but I just perfer the middle one. Your second doily looks beautiful.
