Dimpled Chains ver. 2
Here is the revised version of the dimpled chains shown in my previous blog.
And below is the two together for comparison.
I like the version 2 better because of the symmetry in the design. I have changed the shape of the corner in the new one to give it a firmer hold. Since it as all chains, it tats up nicely with variegated or multicoloured thread because the change in the colours flows through nicely.
It would be obvious that this design can also be made with shuttle and ball - i.e. if you don't mind having to close all the dimples rings.
And that is something that I don't particularly like to do. I don't mind the occasional ones appearing in small motifs but not for the length of an edging.

I liked the first one, but I like this one too. You are probably right about the corner. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteI like the corner on the second version, too. It looks uniform with the rest of the design. It's a great edging. You're very talented!
ReplyDeleteHi Jon! What a great pattern, especially the corners! I love that variegated thread. What is it and will the pattern be available? Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteoh, I couldn't help being awed... even though I knew I would see something new when I clicked my bookmark to your blog! I have overlooked edgings until now... because they seemed 'ordinary' and most often awkward. Yours are BEAUTIFUL! :)
ReplyDeleteI just love the new corner on the edging. It looks 'perfectly cornered'. I like the variegated thread too.. i have a similar shade... and i have been wanting to do an edging...can you put up the pattern for us, please?
ReplyDeleteI love both edgings, but I thing the second one jumps out at me! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for leaving your comments.
ReplyDeleteEdgings are usually the first thing that you make when you first learn tatting. Remember the basic ring-and-chains edging? It will never go away although I know that some do stay away from edgings. Maybe it just need to be looked at differently.
The pattern for this and the Hearts on a String are in the process. You'll get to see them in a few days, or weeks, (or month?)
What a delightful pattern...thank you so much for sharing it!
