And the work begins

I wrote about my niece in this earlier post. Now the work has begun on getting everything ready for the big day, except that for me, I will have to double the effort.

You see, since that post, another one of my nieces will be getting married too.  And the two weddings are just a month apart from each other. It will be a busy time for me for the next few months.  So much so that I have decided to put aside all my current tatting projects and focus on these two events.

There are a few things that I am thinking of making to decorate the gifts and wedding favors.  I started working on a flower pattern by Mary Konior.  These are the Bell Flowers from Tatting with Visual Patterns.  Can't quite decide which colour beads to use.
Bell Flowers - with white beads, coloured and mirror beads

They look quite pretty when bunched together like this,

Then, I tatted a small basket, which I plan to use as receptacles for the bunga rampai. I have not decided how many of these baskets that I need to make.

Bunga Rampai is a scented mix of flower petals and finely sliced pandanus leaves that is usually part of the decoration for the wedding gifts exchanged by the two families.

Now, got to wait and see if the mothers of the brides are agreeable with these, ha ha ha ha.....

  3. It sounds like you have many busy and fun-filled days ahead! I love Mary Konior's Bell Flower. I made two, one in green, one in pink. They sit nested together in a bud vase, and I smile whenever I see them.

I like the mirror beads the best. Which will you choose? ; )

  9. I like the mirror and the colored beads, however, it really does depend on how they decorate doesn't it. *shrug*

I've done quite a number of wedding dresses over the years so I understand the stress. I was horribly ill for the 2 I did last year and they were at different times!

May you stay healthy and low stressed. May you get done what you need AND find time for yourself. Good luck you amazing woman.

  10. Those are beautiful . . . I haven't done any 3 dimensional tatting yet. Just curious, what else are pandanus leaves used for? I have a plant and know that they are used for cooking but don't know how to use them.

  12. Thank you all for visiting and leaving comments.

I have not decided on which beads to use but am inclined towards the white because of the soft effect it give. I may use a contrasting colour for the flower stamen, something along the colour scheme of the weeding overall.

Teresa, the pandanus leaves are usually used for the scent when added in cooking or colour from the juice produced when the leaves are crushed or blended with a little bit of water. I don't think that the leaves themselves are edible.
