Kupu-kupu (Butterflies)

Kupu-kupu in the Malay language is butterfly.
(Some interchange the word with rama-rama, but rama-rama means moth)

I came up with this design on a whim while looking to use up a balance of thread in a shuttle. You can see my first attempt in my Facebook.  I made small changes to the first attempt and came up with this pink version.

A close-up of the butterflies.

And the chart is here,

A few notes to help you read the chart.
  1. The small ring that is the head of the butterfly has the stitch count of (1+ 2 lp 2 sp 1), lp = long picot, sp = small picot.
  2. I have not given the length of the long picots. You can make them to your own measurements.
  3. I placed small picots at the end of Ring A and at end of the small ring. The small picots are to anchor the butterfly head so that it doesn't get floppy.
  4. To make it easier to join to the small picot, I post my shuttle when closing the rings A and the small ring. I don't normally post my shuttle when closing ring but by posting it here the tiny picot will stay above the ring and not disappear under it and make it easier to join to it.
I have not decided if I want to snip the long picot in the small rings or leave them at they are.  I leave that choice to you. They look quite neat un-snipped.
