Patchwork Squares

I created this square in 2024 to clear out two skeins of hand-dyed thread that, on its own, is not enough for a big project.  I used the them together to create a square motif and turned it into a square patchwork piece.

Finally, I managed to chart the design and am now able to share it here.

This is how I have arranged my squares.  Different arrangements using as many colours as you wish will give a totally different picture.

This is a small one round motif worked using shuttle and ball. To make it easier for me to work the motif, I loaded a full shuttle and then pulled out a length of thread from the shuttle for the chain. I suggest that you take a measurement of the chain thread before starting and then measure what is left after completing the motif to determine how much is needed for the chain (with some allowance for hiding ends after that).  You then pull out this amount of thread for the next motif.  I find this method convenient for me because I won't have a ball attached to my work.

I have added an edging to my completed layout. This is optional and you may use your own edging design if you wish to.

Above is the chart for my edging. You will need two shuttles for this as it contains split rings. The split ring are marked with a line across it.

Please leave a comment if you are not clear about certain things or if you notice a mistake, and I will try to reply ASAP.
