Tatting Doldrums and Tattoos

There is a stagnation in my tatting right now.  Can't seem to tat anything.  I can't get anything done even following a pattern, let alone trying to design something.  Tried to tat something from the Norma Benporath book that Liyarra sent me and I got it wrong 3 out of 3 times that I tried it.  Heck, I can't even take a decent picture of what I have tatted or attempted to tat, to show here.  I think I should have something

So I did something 'crazy' and type 'tatsaway' in the search box and, as some may have guessed, out come several sites for removing tattoos.  That got me thinking that I should change my blog url!

My blog name is Tat-a-Renda, which is actually made up of two key words, 'Tat' and 'Renda'.  'Tat' everyone knows refers to tatting.  'Renda' is a local term meaning lace.  I think the word is a Portuguese origin because I remember someone in my other group mentioned it.  Just for fun, I typed 'renda' and using the Google translator (from Portuguese to English), this is one of the translations that I get, "renda, cordão, passamanaria, fita, rede, atacador". Isn't that interesting?

Anyway, I think I should also change my blog url to 'tat-a-renda.blogspot' to align with my blog name.  I don't want to create a new blog with the new name because I will lose all my settings and my followers, but I can change the url of my current blog.

Before I do that, I kept thinking of all links and references that have been made to my blog.  What will happen to them? How do I let people know my new blog url?  Any suggestions for making a smooth transition to the new url?

  1. Please let me know if you change things, I don't want to lose you, you are my inspiration.
I haven't been tatting long but am already hooked. All other crafts have been put aside for this wonderful thing.

  2. One thing to do is to have us all mention the change on our blogs, that way you would probably reach many of your current readers and even add some?
I'd be happy to do it but if some of the "big ones" like Fox, Frivole and Jane were to do it, that would probably do it right there.

I'm sorry for your doldrums, hope they go away soon.

  3. Tatting doldrums are no fun. I have had them before. It takes a conscience effort to get over it, good luck.

As for changing the blog url? I have no clue, Short of announcing it on your blog, facebook and email lists, I have no idea what else you would do.

Googling Ladytats will get you a lot of non lace related things as well, but I have used it for so long that I don't think I will bother changing.

  4. I wish I knew the answer to that, Jon. I barely learned how to enable cookies so I can leave comments....again.
Maybe blogger has an answer to your question...or maybe google your question. I do that alot!

  5. I had the tatting doldrums after finishing a huge doily project...so I decided to teach myself to shuttle tat! It has really invigorated my brain this week...so, you could teach yourself to needle tat, just for fun! If you decide to try it, and want some tips, let me know! :) (Or, if you like visuals, check out Totus Mel's video tutorial on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtMR_XtTvTk) Good luck, you will get past it! :)

    1. No Kristen, I tried tatting with needle a few times, even managed to complete a bookmark. I even tried to convince myself that I may need it for tatting with yarn, for example. But, I still ♡ my shuttles, so I'll stick with them. :)
