So, I tatted a flower motif using satin cord and another using size 20 cotton thread. The stitch count is the same for both. Here is how they measure up in size compared to each other.
Wow that is some difference, you would need a large shuttle for that cord for anything. But it shows it can be done with thicker thread. Thank you for showing the difference. Margaret
That's a hoot!!!!
ReplyDeleteNice experiment. The satin cord one looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love it, Jon! This has so much possibilities.. making a large floor mat, place mats ... Thanks for giving the idea.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! That is a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteOh my, what a huge motif! At one point I noticed a lot crochet rugs made with thick yarn. Your tatted motif made me think of a tatted rug.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea, Mica. I hope you'll share pictures of it.

The interesting part is, I did not use a shuttle at all for the satin cord.
DeletePhew, that's even bigger than my tatting with cotton yarn. Interesting to see the comparison, good idea.
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge difference the size of the thread/cord makes! They both look very nice :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is truly spectacular!
ReplyDeleteMay I ask, if that it has given you the idea of a new design ?
Best wishes
Well Ancolie, I see pictures of crochet and knitting with thick yarns, so I thought it can also be done with tatting, :)
DeleteJon I tried it with cording! It came out... umm... big?! :) But the cording twists... posted on my blog. It CAN be made into mats. :)
